Церковна архітектура в творчості етнографа Данила Щербаківського

Abstract

У статті висвітлено тематику наукових студій етнографа, мистецтвознавця, музейника, педагога Данила Щербаківського, методи етнографічних досліджень XIX - початку ХХ ст. духовної та матеріальної культури українського народу, етнічних груп, що проживали в Україні. Автори наголошують на вагомий внесок вченого у дослідженні дерев’яної церковної архітектури України, еволюції архітектурних форм церковних споруд, виокремлюючи український архітектурний стиль церков та релігійну символіку. The article examines the scholarly pursuits of Danylo Shcherbakivskyi, a distinguished Ukrainian ethnographer, art historian, museum specialist, and educator, with particular attention to his research on the spiritual and material culture of the Ukrainian people and ethnic communities residing within the territory of Ukraine. Special emphasis is placed on the methodological approaches employed in ethnographic studies of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which formed the foundation for the systematic investigation of national cultural heritage. The authors highlight the scholar’s substantial contribution to the study of Ukrainian wooden church architecture, the evolution of architectural forms of ecclesiastical structures, and the identification of distinctive features of the Ukrainian architectural tradition in sacred construction. Particular attention is devoted to the interpretation of religious symbolism embodied in church buildings, bell towers, and other elements of sacral architecture, which constitute an integral part of Ukraine’s cultural and artistic heritage.
