Cognitive and progmatic aspects of foreign language teaching methods : assessment for learning in the remote classroom

Abstract

The term ‘assessment’ can be confusing because it can have multiple meanings depending on the context. There are two main approaches: assessment of learning (summative assessement) and assessment for learning (formative assessment). Traditional approaches to assessment are usually based on assessment of learning (summative assessement) carried out at the end of a course or school year in the form of an exam or test to which grades are given. The results are then reported.
