Abstract: The article highlights the problem of training future educators in a higher education establishment within the teaching of the discipline «The History of Preschool Pedagogy». The peculiarities related to the formation of the future educators’ competence in understanding the relationship between facts, events, phenomena and educational processes in the past and present have been diagnosed. The proficiency (development) indicators of the future educators’ competence in understanding the relationship between facts, events, phenomena and educational processes in the past and present have been determined, namely: the presence of scientifically substantiated theoretical knowledge about the historical conditions of education, tendencies and regulations of General and Preschool Pedagogy in different historical epochs; the development state of the skills aimed at analysing pedagogical systems of the past and transforming creatively their potential into the modern educational process of preschool education, using the obtained information to organise the development of young and preschool-aged children as well as their improvement; evaluating their own activities from the standpoint of cultural, historical, social and pedagogical values. The diagnosis was performed before and after classes in the academic discipline «The History of Preschool Pedagogy». The teaching methods aimed at training future educators in forming future educators’ competence in understanding the relationship between facts, events, phenomena and educational processes in the past and present have been described. The main forms of the organisation of students’ educational activities have been described: computer-assisted lectures; practical and seminar classes (discussions, debates, the project method, the «mind map» technology, etc.).
