Teaching english in profi le secondary school: modern challenges and innovative approache

Abstract

Modern profile secondary education in Ukraine is aimed at developing key competencies in students, which are necessary for successful continuation of studies and professional activities in a globalized society. One of the leading subjects in profile classes of senior secondary school is English, which provides access to international academic and professional resources, contributes to the development of communicative, cognitive, and critical thinking skills, and enhances graduates’ competitiveness in the global labor market. At the same time, teaching English in profile classes faces a number of challenges typical for modern Ukrainian education. These include unequal levels of students’ basic language competencies, insufficient motivation for active and independent learning, limited material and digital resources, and the need to integrate modern technologies and innovative methods into the educational process. In the context of globalization and digitalization of education, the implementation of innovative methodologies that combine the development of language competencies with an interdisciplinary approach and practical application of knowledge in real-life situations is of particular importance. This includes the use of project-based learning, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), digital educational platforms, and interactive resources, which promote active student engagement and the development of their independence and critical thinking. Сучасна профільна середня освіта в Україні спрямована на розвиток ключових компетенцій учнів, необхідних для успішного продовження навчання та професійної діяльності в глобалізованому суспільстві. Одним із провідних предметів у профільних класах старшої середньої школи є англійська мова, яка забезпечує доступ до міжнародних академічних та професійних ресурсів, сприяє розвитку комунікативних, когнітивних навичок та навичок критичного мислення, а також підвищує конкурентоспроможність випускників на світовому ринку праці. Водночас викладання англійської мови в профільних класах стикається з низкою проблем, типових для сучасної української освіти. До них належать нерівний рівень базових мовних компетенцій учнів, недостатня мотивація до активного та самостійного навчання, обмеженість матеріальних та цифрових ресурсів, а також необхідність інтеграції сучасних технологій та інноваційних методів у освітній процес. В умовах глобалізації та цифровізації освіти особливого значення набуває впровадження інноваційних методологій, що поєднують розвиток мовних компетенцій з міждисциплінарним підходом та практичним застосуванням знань у реальних життєвих ситуаціях. Це включає використання проектного навчання, інтегрованого навчання змісту та мови (CLIL), цифрових освітніх платформ та інтерактивних ресурсів, що сприяють активній участі учнів та розвитку їхньої самостійності та критичного мислення.
