Interpretative strategies in contemporary choral conducting: the experience of the PRC

Abstract

The article explores interpretative strategies in contemporary choral conducting within the context of changing artistic and cultural paradigms. It examines two principal performance approaches - personalized performance and Historically Informed Performance (HIP). The study reveals that personalized performance emphasizes individual creative expression and subjective reinterpretation of the musical text, whereas HIP seeks to reconstruct historical performance practices based on period sources and authentic instruments. Special attention is given to the phenomenon of Chinese choral art, which synthesizes European academic traditions with national aesthetic principles.
